Nature displays them all over the world, these vegetal walls. In Europe on houses covered with beautiful ivy or Virginia creeper at all seasons, or in the Tropics with those amazing cliffs covered with ferns, carnivorous plants, and all sorts of prolific vines…
Today, thanks to the French architect Patrick Blanc, and after him, to numerous other visionary builders, vegetal walls are sprouting in all cities and countries. In exterior or interior architecture, public buildings or private homes, they are a source of pleasure and wonder for all.
Lately, Leon Hugo Bonte, one of France’s first “hydroponics grower, and founder of the very beautiful chain of urban garden stores, Les Jardins Suspendus, published a small and very interesting booklet (in French only up to now) called « Réaliser et entretenir son mur végétal », in which he describes how to build your own wall, and which plants to use for different purposes.
At GHE, we do not manufacture those walls, although, for our own pleasure we just developed a small vegetal frame with air purifying plants for our offices. But we know that several vegetal wall amateurs use our products for their creations. They particularly use our nutrients and additives.
Of course, you can use the AquaFarm reservoir or an AeroFlo chamber to build your setting. But you can use about any other parts you choose. But your best choice for nutrients and additives is Flora Series, FloraNova, Diamond Nectar, and Mineral Magic. Or, if you choose to grow with certified organic nutrients, Sevia Grow & Bloom and BM.
Close to us, one of the first creators of vegetal walls in France, is in Colayrac St Cirq, 47450, in the Lot et Garonne. M. Fabien Coutable founded Végétales Visions in 2001, and specializes in models going from 2m2 to exterior walls for homes and buildings. For more information, visit www.mursvegetaux.com
M. Coutable used Flora Series and Diamond Nectar for a long time. But switched to Sevia Grow & Bloom as soon as the product was launched. He tells us : “I love using Sevia Grow & Bloom and the micro organisms which cover all the plants nutritional needs. Using them for vegetal walls is very easy and accessible to me, and to my clients. I recommend checking nutrients every 3 weeks, and would add BM every 6 months, or if an unpleasant smell starts to develop. It’s a real pleasure for me, for the plants and for the environment, to use truly organic products!” For more information, don’t hesitate to contact him at firstname.lastname@example.org
